I am lucky enough to live in Sarasota, with the water views of the little Sarasota Bay, just a stone throw from the Gulf of Mexico. That means that I can see every day the unbelievable Sarasota sunsets.
And I use the word “unbelievable” because our sunsets frequently are like that. Every one different from the previous, with amazing colors, changing during the evening, quite often not the colors you would expect during the sunset. I saw neon pink mixed with green on many occasions, and every possible combination of pink, blue and violets.
But from all the sunsets I remember so far, and we live here almost 20 years, so there were plenty sunsets to remember, the most unforgetable is the one I captured on this photograph.
The combination of delicate mauve colors with the violets, blues and the darkness setting in was simply divine. So, for years I was talking about painting this sunset. But it was scary proposition. How will I be able to recreate those magnificents colors? Finally, I decided that just talking and thinking about it is not enough and decided to make my move. It took me a few weeks of work, started in middle of July and just finished it this week.
Of course it is different. Way darker, more drama, lost those subtle mauves. However, I must also say, I’m quite satisfied with the result. But of course, the most important question is…
How do YOU like this one?
